Los Tiburones de Vera Cruz
A Pirates of the Burning Sea Society

So you are new to Pirates of the Burning Sea! Don't get frustrated, we were all new once and you may find some people in the game have no patience for new players. Hopefully you'll find that is not the case in our society. First piece of advice no matter what kind of character you chose to make is: TAKE TIME TO DO ALL TUTORIAL MISSIONS!!! The second is the Encyclopaedia Piratica on the PotBS website. This reference is a valuable tool used to learn more about Pirates of the Burning Sea and provides many tips, pointers and info on all the aspects of the game.
Third and most importantly... always have fun! This is a game after all.

Leveling Your Character
Some info on
leveling, especially Spanish characters. The game starts at level 50!
There are basically two ways to level in PotBS. The first is by completing missions, the second is called power leveling. It is the general policy of Los Tiburones to not power level new players beyond level 25, at which point they are awarded a complimentary 'Stralsund' Frigate, capable of taking a player all the way to level 50 if he or she is skilled enough.

It is highly recommend that you level your first and primary character via missions to receive all the valuable mods and loot items needed to be a successful captain of the Burning Sea. The primary way to level your character is by completing missions. You can find missions in just about every port in the Caribbean that will reward you with gold, loot, abilities and experience.

Spanish players begin the game in Vera Cruz, but whatever nation you choose to play be sure to do every mission in your starting port as many of them are important tutorials and get you set up well to begin the game in earnest. your nationality's beginning ports are in close proximity, and you will easily reach level 15 within your starting area. For Spanish players this is Barilla, Villa Hermosa, Campeche and finally Sisal.
As a Spanish player when you are ready from Sisal you will make a longer journey down to Cartagena, Portobello, Cape de Vela and Maracaibo, these should see you get to around level 30.
The next ports are Caracas, Port of Spain and Santo Domingo. These missions should see you to your 40's At this point you may want to try some missions in the French ports of Jaqueme and San Marcos. Also the Spanish ports of Santiago and Trinidad will get you to around level 45.
At this point of the game you should now be a somewhat accomplished officer with a powerful Frigate! The final 4 or 5 levels can be finished off with a combination of daily missions in Havana, Trinidad, Orleans, and back at Caracas.
Other prestige missions and hunting certain pirates for influence will also get you along your way to finally reaching level 50.
By now you have probably been hearing about "port battles," perhaps been in a couple and itching to command a Ship of the Line or rate ship, some of the other tips found within these pages will help you learn what it takes to get into one.
The secondary way to level can be much faster and is called power leveling. This is done by taking a low level player into a group of level 50 players who are hunting fleets of 8 or 12 enemy Naval vessels and sinking them. As the enemy ships are destroyed, you will earn considerable experience and can advance several levels in an hour or two. Plus you can accumulate a ton of loot and for the most part item drops. With these drops of items or loot, you can either list them at the auction house, trade them in for other items or hang onto them until you are of a high enough level to use them.
This second method can be very effective, but remember there are missions that give you crucial skills and equipment and you should do some of these also if you want to be an accomplished Captain in the Tiburone Society.

There are skills you can only learn through career missions given to you every five levels from your career trainer, so be sure to do these as often as possible. A combination of the two styles of leveling can work also, for example do missions to around level 40 and then do some power leveling or intermittent power leveling along the way. But be remember by doing this you will miss much of the story line and game immersion that makes Pirates of the Burning Sea special!
